Remove the background from a photo automatically

Removing a background usually means uploading a photo to a cloud AI service, which is exactly the kind of tool where you might not want a face or a product photo sitting on someone else's server. Pixformet instead downloads a small machine-learning model straight to your browser the first time you use the tool, then runs the subject/background separation locally using WebAssembly — the photo itself never gets uploaded.

Results are strongest with a clearly defined subject against a reasonably distinct background — a portrait, a product shot, or an animal photo.
